In 2007, I took up my current position as the inaugural National Training Manager of Hutchinson Builders, the biggest privately owned building company in Queensland with operations across Australia. My brief is to build a workforce development strategy that focuses on increasing the capacity and capability of the company employing over 1400 employees including increasing the number of apprentices and cadets to around 15% of the total workforce. I started my apprenticeship in 1990 and progressed to run a small but successful business, however the burning desire to pass on my experience and expertise lead me into the teaching profession. In 2002 I started as a TAFE teacher and began my journey in the training industry and still currently active within my role with Hutchinson Builders. In the past 13 years I have been involved with WorldSkills where I have been Chief Judge in both regional and national competitions. As a teacher/trainer I believe that high quality work is a direct result of great guidance from experienced leaders.

Before joining the GCSC I was a self-employed carpenter that worked within domestic construction. I train and mentor Certificate I in Construction students and apprentices at the GCSC Yatala campus. The most rewarding thing about my role as a trainer is the gratitude of an ex-student when they get a job or career out of the programs I helped deliver. It really makes my job worthwhile.
