Zack lives at Crestmead.

His studies at school weren’t progressing as well as they could have been so with the support of his parents he chose to leave school after completing Year 10.

Zack visited The Exchange at Yarrabilba to enquire about career opportunities.

He was referred to GCSC and subsequently applied online for the Get Ready 4 Construction program. Zack came in for an interview and enrolled with GCSC in late January 2018 and completed his training mid May 2018.

During his training he completed:

  • Work Safely in the Construction Industry – White Card
  • Site specific induction
  • Certificate I in Construction
  • Life Skills program
  • Green skills competency
  • 160 hours of Structured Workplace Learning

Zack was able to secure employment with Masem Painting Contractors (MPC Painting) as a brush hand and hopefully will progress to an apprenticeship.

The story behind Zack’s employment opportunity.

Tony Daly the GCSC Trainer in Yarrabilba went down to the local IGA one morning to get smoko and as he walked out a construction worker was walking in. Never shy to promote what we do Tony grabbed a brochure and a business card from his car and went back in and introduced himself to the person (Brian McLean MPC) and told him about our Structured Workplace Learning program. Tony hadn’t even finished his smoko when Brian called and asked if he had someone ready to go now. Zack quickly packed up his gear and lunch and Brain picked him up and the rest is history.
